The Power of Re-Framing

Updated: Nov 6, 2018

This morning, I set out for my run in the woods and my thoughts centred on how I used to loathe Monday and how I would choose to view it differently going forward. You see, for about 2 months now, I've been playing this game with myself every day . . . "It's a lucky day!" is my mantra! I have been taking note of silly things or amazing things and it has changed my entire mindset for the day and my attitude toward just about everything.

I returned home to see that as the landlord had promised . . . a crew had shown up to build our new deck and we had no idea when it would happen - I said, "It's a lucky day!" Then I sat here at my computer and composed the Monday Affirmation posted below.

The sun was shining, the deck was being built . . . yay!

Off to the office I go, where I work downtown and parking is not friendly for those that must spend more than 2 hours. I was a few minutes late in getting up to go move my car to dodge the ticket lady but I was 4 whole minutes too late - she got me!

I was slightly shocked as this was not in alignment with my game! I soaked it in and said, “It is what it is!” But it was nagging at me for hours. AND THEN, I re-framed it and said to myself, "How lucky am I to have gotten this ticket!!!? I haven't had one in many, many, many years. I am going to celebrate this ticket." And just like that, it was over! I re-framed the scenario and it was over!

The next morning, I went to City Hall first thing, to pay my ticket. The Clerk was busy whispering to another Clerk and referencing a book and I thought what the heck is going on? She came back to the wicket and looked at me to say, "This ticket has been cancelled!" 🙌 "It is a lucky day!" I love this game!
